5-4-3 Baked Beans

This delicious side dish is the perfect companion to anything grilled.

Equipment

  • 9x9 or similar baking dish
  • saute or frying pan
  • wooden spoon
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife

Ingredients

  • 1 large (28 oz.) can baked beans, excess liquid drained
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 6-8 strips bacon, cooked until crispy
  • 5 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 4 tablespoons ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons prepared mustard, dijon preferred
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Fry bacon in pan over medium heat until fat is rendered and bacon is crispy. Set aside to drain on paper towel and cool. Crumble once cooled.
  • Saute diced onion in bacon grease until translucent. Turn heat off.
  • Add beans, maple syrup, ketchup, mustard, and optional pepper to onions. Mix well.
  • Pour mixture in greased baking dish.
  • Bake at 350 for 45-60 minutes. I usually bake around 50 minutes.
  • Add crumbled bacon to beans once done. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

This recipe is easily doubled or tripled for large parties.
