A wonderful friend recently gifted my husband about a dozen gala apples. When he brought them home I knew I wanted to make this apple crisp.
Its an easy, delicious, fall treat made with pantry staples. I love pantry staple recipes! Usually I make this several times a season. My family loves to top it with vanilla ice cream, but I love it just the way it is!
I have made this crisp using a variety of apples and it has really been great every time. I start by peeling the apples, coring, and slicing, then mixing them all up in my batter bowl with the cinnamon, flour, and sugar. I use my regular vegetable peeler most of the time, but I also use my combo peeler and corer.
Next, I mix the dry topping ingredients together, and then, using a fork, I drizzle in the butter. As it incorporates with the dry ingredients, it becomes a wonderful, crumbly topping. Spoon that directly over the apples and its ready for baking!
Once finished, allow this dessert rest for about 15 minutes before serving. It may seem “runny” at first, but will thicken as it stands.
If you’re lucky enough to have leftovers, store in an air tight container in the fridge up to five days. Enjoy this wonderful treat!
