Oh my, this is a great semi-homemade recipe. Warm Chocolate Pudding Cake is incredibly easy, warm and delicious, perfect any time of year.

This is a gooey dessert, with the warm chocolatey pudding melting out of all sides. My children love this dessert and love to scoop whipped cream over the top.

I often have the ingredients on hand for this yummy pudding cake, it fills a whole 13X9 pan, so its great go to recipe when guests arrive or sleepovers on a whim.

As a general rule for semi homemade recipes, go with the best ingredients you can afford. Splurge on the Ghirardelli, Godiva, or even Hershey’s puddings and cake mixes. It makes a difference.

The hardest part of this recipe is waiting for the baking.

I hope you enjoy this chocolatey dessert! Let me know what you think!

Ingredients

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) devils food cake mix, plus ingredients on the box
  • 2 boxes (3.9 oz size) instant chocolate pudding
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 2 cups milk
  • whipped cream to top (recipe to follow)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Prepare cake batter as directed on box. Pour into a greased 13X9 baking dish.
  • Whisk together dry pudding mixes, sugar, water, and milk for 2 minutes. Pour evenly over cake batter.
  • Place baking dish on baking sheet and place in oven. Bake for 1 hour. Prepare whipped cream while waiting (recipe below).
  • Cool 15 minutes before serving. Top with whipped cream.

Notes

Homemade whipped cream is easy!
It’s best to chill the mixing bowl of a stand mixer before hand, so place in fridge for 20 minutes to cool down. Place 2 cups heavy cream in cold mixing bowl. Add 1/2 cup powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. With whisk attachment, start whisking on low, then speed up as it thickens. Scrape down bowl periodically. Whisk until stiff peaks form, do not over whisk. Keep refrigerated until serving. Serve from a dish with a spoon, or use a piping bag. Keep covered in the fridge for 2-3 days.
This dessert is just as delicious cold or room temperature. Warm from the oven will always be my favorite!
Do you like how my son piped his whipped cream?
