Instant Pot Hamburger Helper

This home made method is super easy in the Instant Pot! Perfect for hectic weeknights!
Prep Time10 minutes mins
Cook Time8 minutes mins
Total Time18 minutes mins
Course: Dinner
Cuisine: American
Keyword: ground beef, hamburger helper, Instant Pot

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1-2 cloves garlic, diced
  • 2 cups pasta shells
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup water
  • 1-2 cups shredded cheddar
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Begin by placing ground beef and onion in Instant Pot. Set to saute and cook until beef is no longer pink. Add garlic, cook additional 30 seconds.
  • Add water, beef broth, pasta shells, salt, and pepper. Stir, and make sure all little bits are scraped off the bottom of pot so as not to activate the burn notice on the Instant Pot.
  • Place lid, set valve to sealing, and cook on manual pressure for 8 minutes.
  • Perform a quick release when finished.
  • Stir in shredded cheddar until fully melted and thickened. Enjoy!

Notes

A good rule of thumb for cooking pasta in the Instant Pot is to use a 1:1 ratio of pasta to liquid. Sometimes it will be too “liquidy” for me, depending on the pasta. Feel free to make adjustments to suit your taste.
As an alternative, use 1 cup of marinara and additional spices like oregano and basil to replace the beef broth and make an Italian version.
