Whipped Coffee (aka Dalgona Coffee) The coffee drink you need this summer

HI, friends! I’ve been seeing some interest floating around about whipped coffee, also known as Dalgona coffee, cloud coffee, frothy coffee, etc.

This craze started on Tik Tok and took off from there. Other countries and cultures have very similar recipes with different names. Whatever you call it, it’s delicious!

The recipe is simple: 1 part instant coffee, 1 part sugar, 1 part water. Blend until lighter in cooler, smooth, and frothy, approximately 5 minutes.

Pour over iced or hot milk and the result is a delicious coffee drink that will take over your other coffee drinks! It’s almost like a melted coffee milkshake. YUM!

A couple tips about this recipe:

Instant coffee is what’s used to whip this up. Regular coffee will not produce the same results.

A hand mixer or immersion blender is best for this drink. A stand mixer could be used, however I do recommend doubling or tripling the ingredients for efficacy.

The recipe yields only about 1 drink. Feel free to adjust the quantities, just keep the ratio the same.

This can be made ahead! The foam will last one to two days in the fridge, and several weeks in the freezer.

A few variations….

This recipe is surprisingly versatile.

  • Cocoa powder can be added to make a mocha. 1 teaspoon per tablespoon of coffee.
  • Maple, vanilla, hazelnut, almond, and caramel extracts can all be added.
  • A pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, pumpkin pie spice, and salt can all add a great dimension to this drink.
  • Feel free to use any type of milk. Coconut milk is fabulous with this, as well as almond and soy milks.
  • Regular, decaf, or a mixture of the two will yield the same results.
  • I have used granulated sugar as well as coconut sugar, and maple syrup, all produced delicious results.

In conclusion, I hope this recipe satisfies that “coffee tooth” while we are still social distancing. No need to leave the house with this recipe on hand! I can’t wait to sip it on the back porch over the summer. Enjoy~
